Book Giveaway Winner – Serbian Marathon Man

Thanks to everyone who entered our most recent DMBooks giveaway for Phil Southerlands new memoir, Not Dead Yet We had over 45 entries! Were pleased to announce that the winner is Ninoslav Raskovic — who turns out to be a marathon runner from Serbia!
Ninoslav is 36 years old and has lived with type 1 diabetes for 12 years He is an accomplished athlete himself, and has finished six marathons and one ultramarathon Wow!
Last year, he was named one of Medtronic Minimeds Global Heroes Ninoslav shared his speech from the Global Heroes ceremony Heres some of what he wrote:
All these 12 years I have been trying to convey my volcanic energy to others I have been trying to show that life with diabetes can be absolutely normal and that there should not be an obstacle to achieving dreams Four years ago I made a web site called Win Diabetes’’ I have started to run marathons in order to motivate other people with diabetes I have devised the motto, Diabetes is a marathon, not a sprint, with which I wanted to indicate to everyone both patients and doctors that diabetes is a disease that you have to fight against every day, for your entire life Many people forget it and we all know the consequences What makes me happy is that with [athletic achievements] diabetics are seen less as people with special needs and the level of discrimination in society is diminished At the races I am not the only one and many people have realized that daily moderate physical activity is essential for their health The treatment of diabetes is becoming better and more accessible Many young people speak out about their problems; they have established various associations and clubs When I started with all this, I told myself that if I only motivate one person to change their life, my mission will be successful! That number increased long ago So I am happy now and for me it is the biggest reward
