All pregnancies are divided into three different stages, which are called the first, second and third quarter also. When you realize you are pregnant, it is very important to know what changes will happen during pregnancy week by week and when you can expect these changes occurring.
The first quarter will last from first week of pregnancy up to week fourteen of pregnancy. During the first two weeks, the body prepares for ovulation and sperm is germinating the egg. The third week is where the egg goes down the fallopian tubes and integrates into the walls, while separating into two. The inner part will form the baby and the external part will form the placenta. A retinoid called all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), which is a vitamin A-derivative, is already used successfully to treat a rare sub-type of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), however this drug has not been effective for the more common types of AMLs.
Team leader Arthur Zelent, Ph.D., and colleagues at the ICR have been working to unlock the potential of retinoids to treat other patients with AML. In a paper published in Nature Medicine today, they show that the key could be an antidepressant called tranylcypromine (TCP).

March 27, 2012 — A maker of “lean, finely textured beef” — also called “pink slime” by opponents — says it is scaling back production of the beef product.
Beef Products Inc. said Monday that it will suspend production of the ground beef filler in three of its four plants, according to news reports.
This decision was made after several social media outlets were swarmed with concerns about the product when pictures surfaced in early March showing its appearance during production.

People suffering from rheumatoid arthritis who stop taking their cholesterol-lowering drugs may raise their risk of dying, a new study finds.
In fact, those who stopped taking statins raised their chances of dying from cardiovascular disease by 60 percent and dying from any cause by 79 percent during the course of the study, the Canadian researchers reported.
Since rheumatoid arthritis is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, patients often are prescribed statins such as Lipitor (atorvastatin) or Crestor (rosuvastatin) to lower their cholesterol.
“Doctor knows best,” said Dr. Richard Furie, chief of the division of rheumatology at North Shore-LIJ Health System in Lake Success, N.Y.
